Teachers back open up letter decrying Conservative pledge to “kick woke ideology out of science”
About 1,900 lecturers have signed an open letter expressing “anger and disappointment” in reaction to the Conservatives’ guarantee to “kick woke ideology out of science”.

EDI ‘integral’ to science
The letter said it “assumes” that the “wokeism” and “political correctness” responses refer to Equality, Range, and Inclusion initiatives in science.
EDI initiatives are “not some fringe ideology”, the letter states, as it details out that they are “key priorities” for numerous outstanding science establishments such as countrywide funder Uk Investigate and Innovation and the Royal Culture.
Investigate has demonstrated that diverse scientific groups are “more effective and have increased effect than homogenous groups”, the letter highlights.

But the letter states: “Far from depoliticising science, this plan seems to be pushed by ideology. The authorities is attempting to dictate how concerns of sexual intercourse and gender are resolved by academics.”
At the Labour Bash convention on 9 Oct, shadow science minister Chi Onwurah echoed this sentiment.
“The idea that what is incorrect with our state ideal now is that science is too woke is not only essentially improper, but it is an impediment to unleashing the power of science to deal with the worries that we confront,” she claimed whilst talking at a fringe occasion.
